A New Option for Flights from Canada to India

Due to the travel bubbles and the impact of COVID, airlines are pricing their tickets to India at an extremely high fare as there is significant pent-up demand.  These high prices have forced many who cannot afford to travel this winter to look towards the spring to get to New Delhi, and the rest of India.  In the past week, we have seen a significant uptick in bookings for March and April as customers are booking early to lock in their cheap India flight for 2022!

As the situation continues to evolve on the ground, Singapore Airlines has announced that they have agreed to start flights to Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.  This agreement has only recently been announced so we expect more details soon, but with Singapore Airlines also bringing back service to Vancouver there is a chance that there could be a new player in the market for India flights from Canada.

We are hopeful that this new route could be added to the options for a customer looking to travel from Vancouver to India or even those flying from Toronto to India with an additional stop in Vancouver.  Currently, the rules will make it difficult for quick transit, but with the financial opportunity for Singapore Airlines being large we are expecting that they will find a way to bring this connection for travellers looking to go from Canada to India.

While we don’t expect a significant number of customers to use this option it may take some of the pressure off of the direct flights to India which will hopefully lower their price.  Any additional flights to India will be welcome as it will help customers find a cheap India flight.

For travellers going from Toronto to India, most have decided to look at spring flights where fares are lower as the demand is less.  In addition, there is more hope that the rules will be less strict by then so Air Canada & Air India are being less aggressive in what they are charging.

If you are looking to book travel to India on the Air Canada direct flight from Toronto Delhi, prices are available from $1,800 round-trip.  While that fare might seem extremely high, it is still lower than what customers are paying to travel this fall and winter.

There are options available that are as low as $1,000 for flights from Toronto to India, but for customers to feel comfortable travelling via a 3rd country the Canadian Govt. must change the rules for COVID testing requirements.  Overall, if the Canadian government will change the rules for returning to Canada from India, we can expect a big drop in the price allowing you to secure a cheap flight to India.

If you are travelling from Vancouver to India, the options and the booking patterns are very similar to what we are seeing out East.  Many travellers have decided that if they want to book a cheap India flight this year, they will have to wait until the spring to travel.

For those customers who are booking a flight in March on the Air Canada direct flight from Vancouver to Delhi price start around $1,800.  For those who are wanting to save some money and are hoping that the rules will finally change by this Spring prices are as low as $1,300.  Vancouver to Delhi is looking to be a bit pricier over the next 12 months as the three Chinese carriers will most likely not be able to take passengers to India next year.

While we are hopeful that the prices for India will come down for our customers to secure a cheap India flight, it may be a few more months before the government will finally loosen the rules regarding travel from India.  The way the rules have been set up it is giving Air Canada and Air India a significant advantage over the competition which they are using to increase fares.

This has worked well for the two airlines over the past couple of months since the restart of India travel, but customers are becoming impatient waiting for the rules to change.  The moment they finally do, those travellers looking to go from Vancouver to India or Toronto to India will be able to access their cheap flight.
