Air India Cuts 15% of International Flights This Summer

If you want to buy a cheap flight to India in the next few weeks there has been a significant change in the marketplace.  Air India has decided that due to the recent loss of an aircraft the airline will fully inspect its entire long-haul fleet, including all of their Dreamliner 787s and triple 7 aircraft.  While this is great news for increasing the level of safety of the airplanes it is having an impact on their availability to fly long-haul routes.

The result of this new program is that 15% of long-haul flights have been removed for the next 30 days.  As both Toronto and Vancouver Air India flights rely on the 787 aircraft there have been significant cancellations.  In Vancouver, 2 flights per week have been cancelled.  As the direct flights from Vancouver to Delhi have not been full, this is not having a major impact as there is plenty of space available on other days.

For the direct flights from Toronto to Delhi the impact has been more significant as Air India has gone from 2 to 1 daily flight so there is less space available to find space on the direct Toronto to Delhi service.

Luckily in both instances, Air India is allowing their partner airlines Air Canada and Lufthansa to take their passengers to Delhi.  In addition, the fact that all of this is happening in the low season for Canada to India traffic means there are plenty of seats available to deal with this issue.

While customers are still looking to buy a cheap flight to India this does not help, but the fact that this will improve the safety of Canada to India flights is the primary goal which is great news.

For passengers who are departing from Toronto to Delhi this fall, British Airways is leading the pack with the lowest prices!  Right now you can find a price to India for only $1770 via London.  For those who want to buy a ticket on the direct flight, Air India will cost close to $2100 with Air Canada’s direct service almost the same.  With both Air India and Air Canada offering one free bag, the Air Canada price is very competitive compared to previous years.  All are great options to secure a cheap flight to India from Toronto.

Those looking for a cheap flight to India from Vancouver are primarily looking to Hong Kong’s main carrier Cathay Pacific.  With plenty of flights between Hong Kong and Vancouver and between Hong Kong and Delhi they have the capacity to keep prices low which means cheap India flights for you!  Right now prices are available from $1750.  For those who want the convenience of the direct service on Air India, flights are available for $2450, but remember those now only include 1 free bag, you will have to pay $80 more in order to receive 2 checked free bags, but it is still a great deal.

Overall, with the reduction of flights this summer, the news has not been great for those looking to travel to India this summer, but as the peak season is still a few months away, the timing could not be better.  As bookings for the Fall are starting to increase as long as the maintenance is completed in the next month we will be looking forward to a great India season with plenty of cheap flights!
