Air India’s Aircraft Purchase Should Lower Prices to India

In the last few weeks, there have been a few significant announcements for those hoping for a cheap flight to India in the future.

While current prices continue to be high due to increased demand and reduced capacity there is hope for the next few years.  Air India has made a major purchase of aircraft from both Boing and Airbus which is the largest order of airplanes in history.  It will take years for all of the aircraft to come into the Air India system, but planes will also be arriving in the next few months.  The addition of new aircraft will allow for increased capacity from India to destinations around the world.  As carriers compete with the new Air India, we will most likely see lower prices due to this new round of competition.

In other India flight news, there is a new low-cost carrier that is coming to Toronto.  Neos Air will be flying from Milan to Toronto this summer.  Normally this would not be big news for India flights, but Neos also has a direct flight from Milan to Amritsar.  The new option from Toronto to one of India’s most important destinations for the Punjabi community will have a significant impact on prices and options for those travellers out East.  In addition, if this new service is a success, it will drive other carriers to look for direct flights to the Northern State which will increase your ability to find a cheap flight to India.

Customers who are looking for a cheap India flight in the next few weeks leaving Toronto are finding some lower-priced options as we move out of the peak India travel season.  With temperatures increasing in India, more people are looking to come back to Canada to enjoy our temperate Spring and Summer weather.  Prices remain on the high side as demand from students and family coming to Canada has created an imbalance in traffic.  Right now, you can find a flight from Toronto to New Delhi for $2175 on American Airlines via New York, or if you want to stick to the direct service on Air Canada it is available for $2650.  The one place you can finally find a cheap flight to India is by purchasing a one-way ticket on Air Canada this April as it is available for only $845.  While this is a great price, you may find difficulty purchasing a one-way ticket to return to Canada.

Travellers who are leaving from Vancouver to India are primarily sticking to the Air India direct flight due to the lack of competition on this route.  While we are seeing some new flights added from Asia there is still significant space for more carriers in the market.  Until we sell a large ramp-up from airlines in Asia, Air India will continue to charge high prices.  Right now, if you want to depart to India the direct flight will cost you around $2400.

If you want to purchase a cheap India flight there is an option with Air Canada via Japan and Toronto, but you must switch airports in Tokyo which is not a simple task.  This flight is available from $1950, but most customers are willing to spend a few hundred dollars more to take the convenience of the direct flight.

Overall, we have seen some positive news for those looking to find a cheap India flight.  With Air India ramping up aircraft purchases and some new airlines starting service we will finally start to see some reduction in prices.  It will take time for these services to catch up with strong demand, but there is light on the horizon.  In addition, as airlines in Asia start to come back to life there is an expectation that they will again start service and compete for India flight traffic.
