Air India’s Worldwide Seat Sale to India Has Ended

Passengers who wanted to buy cheap flights to India made their move last week as Air India’s worldwide seat sale had a massive impact on the number of tickets to India being purchased.  The wave came to an abrupt end as the seat sale expired.  The prices Air India was offering were rock-bottom which created a spike in demand, but now customers are hoping for the next seat sale before making their purchases on Canada to India travel.  As most people are looking forward to enjoying their summer in Canada it takes something special to make people move on India flights this early in the year.

Typically, we don’t see cheap India flights until later in the Summer which is closer to when people are ready to book their Canada to India travel.  Be ready because if any of the major airlines feel that there is an opportunity to secure early bookings, they will announce a seat sale to increase their market share which is a great opportunity for you to secure a cheap flight to India!

The big news this week for those who want to get a cheap India flight is Air India is making a significant change to their baggage policy.  Starting on June 1st they will be offering 1 free checked bag on their cheapest flights, with a 2nd bag available for purchase.  This is a massive change as Air India customers have come to expect two free bags when travelling on India’s national carrier.  With the recent announcement from Lufthansa who has increased to two free bags, we will see if this strategy works or if they will have to revert to their old policy.  Air India’s overall service levels continue to be an issue so reducing the free baggage allowance may not be in their best interest. Still, we will see how that impacts their bookings moving forward.  Possibility Air India will be able to lower ticket prices on Canada to India flights for those who only need one bag, which would be a great result!

For those who want to buy tickets to New Delhi from Toronto, Air India is no longer leading the way for the cheapest flight to India.  Air Canada is now in the lead as they are offering flights for only $1409 via Montreal and New York.  If you want the convenience of the Air India direct service from Toronto you will, be looking for $2275 which is a significant jump on Air Canada’s option.  In addition, you can find a flight on Air Canada’s direct service from Toronto to Delhi for only $1950 which is a great deal as they normally price much higher than Air India.

For departures leaving from Vancouver and going to India, Air India is still the cheapest flight option.  You can find flights on Air India for only $1499.  Air India continues to offer low prices from Vancouver despite the expiry of their seat sale which is great for anyone looking to buy a cheap flight to India!

For anyone looking to travel to India in the next few weeks, there are plenty of cheap India tickets available.  If you are looking to buy a ticket on Air India, doing so before May 31, 2025, will allow you 2 free checked-in bags, but that will change in June.  Overall those who were able to access the Air India seat sale were able to secure a cheap flight to India and for those who did not, there are many other options to get a flight to India now or even in the Fall if you book early!
