As many people have already purchased a ticket or have travelled to India this year there is still a large number of potential travellers to India who are waiting for the price to go down.

While some have been unable to afford high prices, overall, there has been a big bump in the number of passengers from Canada to India this year as compared to 2019.  Those waiting for lower prices may hear some positive news soon.

China has recently relaxed some of the strict COVID rules for entry into the country.  While these rules still do not allow transit for flights from Canada to India the fact that there have been some changes is extremely positive.

Before 2020 Chinese mainland carriers made up a significant share of travel from Canada to India.  The cheap India flights that were offered by the three largest carriers provided customers with extremely low prices and also added competition to the market to lower the India ticket prices from other airlines.  With demand so strong any additional seats to India will help lower prices which everyone is hoping so they can secure a cheap flight to India.

If there is further relaxation to the COVID policy in China it will still take time for flights to get restarted especially between China and India.  There is a small chance that we could see these connections restarted by late winter or Spring 2023, but there is very little chance it will have a significant impact on prices this peak India travel season.  For those who still want to leave Canada this year or early next year, it makes sense to commit to buying your India now as without additional capacity it is the best time to get a cheap India flight.

Passengers buying tickets on the Toronto to New Delhi direct flight on Air Canada can expect high prices this winter.  Right now, January flights will set you back almost $3300, which are some of the most expensive prices we have seen this year.

For this reason, most people are opting for Air India flights as they are much more affordable as compared to Air Canada.  Most people looking to buy cheap India flights are opting for a stop.  The cheapest flight to India from Toronto right now is with American Airlines through New York City.  Flying on this route via the U.S. is only $2250 saving you over $1000 from the direct flight.

Travellers flying out of Vancouver to India are staying relatively connected to the only direct flight option out of Vancouver.  While the Air India flight is not a cheap ticket to India its convenience is proving to be a great pull even with its high cost.  Customers can expect to pay $3100 for a flight departing in 2023 on this direct service.

For the vast majority who will look at options to save money, there is a flight via Chicago with United Airlines that will cost close to $2500.  One new option that has also been added to the mix is an Air Canada flight through Bangkok.  Air Canada will start a new direct service to Bangkok in the next few weeks and they have created a new option with their partners Air India & Thai Airways to fly to Delhi through this tropical paradise.  Fares on this route on specific dates can be as low as $2200.

Overall, the fares to India this year remain stubbornly high due to many factors including increased demand, lower supply and higher costs for the airlines.  Every week we are seeing new options that have added to capacity but not at a pace that is having a significant impact on your ability to secure a cheap flight to India in the short term.  Hopefully, over the next few months, we will see new flight services that will allow you to once again secure a cheap flight to India.
