Etihad Announces Flights from Calgary to Abu Dhabi!

In the past few weeks, there has been a lot of discussion regarding the opening up of Canada to the Middle Eastern carriers.  Now the first of them has made a major announcement that will have a significant impact on the Canada to India market.  Etihad Airways, out of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates will start direct service from Calgary to Abu Dhabi this fall.  While many people assumed that Vancouver would be the first location for these new flights, Calgary ended up ahead of the line because they lack the significant amount of international services that Vancouver already has.

For those who are wondering how this will impact your ability to get a cheap India flight from Canada, the probability will be great news!  Currently, Calgary does 150,000 trips alone to New Delhi on a yearly basis.  A large number of these trips are routed through Vancouver and Toronto.  Now with Etihad fly direct from Calgary, there will take a substantial number of these passengers via their large network to the Indian Sub-Continent.

As these passengers migrate to this new service, it will create additional capacity in Vancouver and Toronto that will need to be filled.  The most likely method to fill these empty seats will be cheap India flights to entice the market to fly.  While we expect this announcement to be the first of many, these additional flights will impact prices this fall.

One of the major impacts we will see once Etihad starts is the response from Air India.  There was always a large group of Calgary passengers who flew to New Delhi via Vancouver, but many of them will now likely use this new service, especially due to the fact that it will offer cheap India flights to get their brand associated with the market!

Passengers who are leaving from Toronto and heading to India, the best flight for you will be on a Delta codeshare that uses Air France on the outbound via Paris and KLM on the return via Amsterdam.  This cheap India flight is available from $1589!

Customers who are departing from Toronto and only want the convenience of the Air Canada direct service to Delhi will be paying a little bit more with this flight, setting you back $1999.  While the direct service is a great option, you do have to pay more for the convenience.

Passengers are departing from Vancouver and going to New Delhi are in luck as Air India continues to be the cheapest India flight available.  You can find the flight on Air India for only $1789, and with their flight only stopping quickly to refuel in Calcutta, it is the fastest way to get to India from Vancouver.

The major news over the past 7 days is the announcement that Etihad Airways will be flying from Calgary to Abu Dhabi starting this fall.  While this may not directly impact travellers from Vancouver & Toronto, it will create cheap India flights from both of Canada’s major markets.  We are expecting a busy fall with plenty of news and lots of cheap India flights for you!
