Booking Velocity for Canada to India Flights Increases!

Flight purchases of customers buying tickets from Canada to India have been ramping up in the past 7 days.  With some price reductions on fall flights customers are committing to purchasing a cheap flight to India.  As we are already halfway through July the fall festival season in India is approaching rapidly and those who want to be in Delhi or another city in India for Diwali or a family wedding are finalizing their bookings for their flights now.  With the return to school in only 6 weeks the summer slow period is rapidly passing by.

This can be seen in the pace of bookings for India flights as in the past week we have seen double the number of tickets purchased from the week previous.  While many customers continue to wait and hope that flight prices reduce further many have decided now is the time to secure their cheap flight to India.

Some positive news for those looking to book tickets from the Eastern part of the county is United Airlines has decided to ramp up their New Delhi flights from Newark, New Jersey that services the New York area.  United will start flying two direct flights every day this winter from their hub city in New York.  While it may seem that this will not have an impact on all flights, this additional capacity may reduce the flight loads from places like Montreal and Toronto which have a significant number of passengers using their flights from the Eastern United States.  As Air Canada will need to keep these flights to India full it may require them to lower prices on connecting traffic from places like Vancouver and Calgary.  Any new flights added to India, it has a positive impact on pricing.  In addition, with the business world waking up to India’s growing economy there is a higher likelihood of additional flights in the coming months.  All these factors impact your ability to find a cheap flight to India.

For passengers departing from Toronto to New Delhi, this past week has not seen much of a change with both the direct flights from Air India and Air Canada pricing at a similar cost of $2200.  It seems that both carriers are doing their best to keep the prices as high as they can, but inventory remains open which means they may have to reduce prices in the next few weeks as September departures are now less than 60 days away.  In addition, to the direct flights British Airways and American Airlines are offering prices closers to the $2000 level, but with a stop in both directions, most customers are likely to stick with a direct flight to India for only a $200 price difference.

If you are planning to make a trip to Delhi from Vancouver prices have also remained incredibly stable over the past few weeks.

We are unsure if the volume of bookings is enough for airlines to sustain these high prices, but we will know in the next few weeks as time to sell for the fall travel period is running out quickly.  Air India is still priced at $2350, while those customers looking for an option to save money are continuing to drive to Seattle to find cheap India flights from that market as they have less demand and more flight options to India than are available from Vancouver.

Overall, we see things ramping up week over week and we expect that trend to now continue for the rest of the summer.  If we do see a price drop from any of the significant players who are flying to India then we will see the floodgates open.  Some customers have committed to buying their cheap India flights, but many are taking the wait-and-see approach.  We will find out sooner than later who is making the right decision as time is running out quickly before the prime India travel season starts.
