For the many customers who are buying their India tickets in the next few months, some might be asking the question, does it make sense to book with a travel agent who specializes in India or purchase a ticket direct from an Airline or another online source?  While many people are comfortable operating a website and find it very easy to book themselves, many customers do not have a problem at this point.

Issues tend to occur later when your travel to India starts.  Due to airlines operating at high capacity with reduced staffing, they cannot service your India flights if something goes wrong and we are seeing more problems with airline customer service daily.

A client looking to depart from Toronto to Delhi this fall is finding for the first time in a long time that the Air Canada direct service on their 787 Dreamliner is priced lower than the similar service from Air India.  Air Canada’s cheap India flight starts from $2140 while Air India’s direct service is a few dollars more at $2154.  While Air Canada only offers 1 free checked-in bag as compared to Air India 2 free bags Air Canada does have a better service level with few delays so between the two airlines many chose Air Canada when prices are so similar.  The fact that these two airlines are competing strongly for fall traffic is great for customers travelling on the Toronto to India route.

Passengers departing from Vancouver to Delhi are once again having to pay more than their friends out East.  As there is a significant lack of competition due to the lack of Russian airspace and overall capacity constraints from the West Coast as many of the Asian carriers are full with their traffic and the mainland Chinese carriers have not yet started service to India.  For customers, this creates an unlevel playing field where Air India is taking almost all the traffic which allows them to charge more.  Although prices are higher than we hope there are still options to get a cheap flight to India from Seattle or if you like to take the Air India option it is available from $2365 this fall.
